Epsilon aminocaproic acid and reduction in fertility of male rats

The effects of epsilon aminocaproic acid (EACA) on the reproductive efficiency of male and female rats were studied. EACA was given orally (5 g/kg body weight) before and during the mating period. EACA given to female rats had no discernible effect on the number or size of litters produced. No fetal anomalies were detected. EACA given to male rats resulted in a 50% reduction in fertility rate (i.e., number of litters) but had no effect on actual litter size. The reduction in fertility was reversible.
