Determination of geniposide, gardenoside, geniposidic acid and genipin-1-beta-gentiobioside in Gardenia jasminoides by high-performance liquid chromatography

The crude drug Gardenia Fructus, the dried whole fruit of G. jasminoides, collected from 3 locations in China contained 0.25-0.49% geniposidic acid, 0.20-0.71% gardenoside, 0.60-2.29% genipin-1- beta -gentiobioside and 3.91-4.22% geniposide. The seeds contained 5.24-5.41% geniposide while the fruit peel contained 1.74-2.36%. Genipin-1- beta -gentiobioside was found only in trace amounts in the fruit peel, but seeds contained 0.93-3.01%.
