The level of prolactin was determined in the blood of 32 essential hypertension patients. The effect of prolactin level on arterial blood pressure and central hemodynamics was studied. The patients were given parlodel. The drug produced a decrease in arterial pressure in all patients. Decreased venous inflow, cardiac output and blood flow were observed in subjects with hyperprolactinemia, as was reduced total peripheral resistance in aptients with normo-prolactinemia.
