Mania with cryptococcal meningitis in two AIDS patients

Cases are reported in 2 patients (a 32-yr-old and a 35-yr-old man) with AIDS whose first psychiatric presentation was mania and who were later found to have Cryptococcus neoformans meningitis. Therapy with amphotericin B (Fungizone, Mysteclin-F) and flucytosine (Ancobon) was successful in the first case, but the 2nd patient died of respiratory arrest, despite therapy with amphotericin B and flucytosine.
