The technology of production of monoclonal antibodies has permitted obtaining unlimited quantities of well characterized monoclonal reagents usable for blood group typing and investigation of group-specific antigens of human erythrocytes. The authors have discussed the progress in this field, showing the advantages of using monoclonal antibodies in serology as compared to polyclonal sera.
