Presentation of 2 new anti-blood group A monoclonal antibodies: study and characterization

Two new monoclonal antibodies GR1A and GR2A against blood group A have been produced and characterized. Both monoclonal antibodies are IgM K mouse immunoglobulins and have agglutinating capability. These MoAbs were tested with 224 erythrocytes of A1, A2, A1B, A2B, B and O blood groups. GR1A and GR2A only agglutinated A red cells and showed similar titers when compared with commercial reagents in a haemagglutination technique. However the avidity against A2B erythrocytes was low, with similar results obtained by other authors using other anti MoAbs. Results are discussed in relation to the usefulness of these MoAbs for ABO typing in routine haematological work.
