An extracellular protease derived from S-180 tumour cells in culture

Sarcoma-180 tumour cells, cultured in vitro showed leakage of a neutral protease in the extra-cellular medium. The cells (80%) were viable in serum-free medium up to 24 hr. Inhibition of this protease by phenyl methane sulphonyl fluoride and soybean trypsin inhibitor indicates it to be trypsin-like. The enzyme cleaves the substrates in which lysine or arginine carries the p-nitroanilide group and thus confirms the trypsin-like natuer of the enzyme.
