The possibility of using an extract of Rhodiola to lessen the harmful action of rubomycin on the mucosa of the small intestine was studied in 120 mice with Ehrlich ascites carcinoma. The mice were given daily oral doses of Rhodiola extract (5ml/kg) for eight days, starting 24 h after tumor transplantation. Rubomycin was administered in single doses of 15mg/kg i.v. one h after the 4th dose of Rhodiola. Rhodiola extract was found to attenuate the tumor's harmful effects on the epithelium of the small intestine, increasing the mitotic activity of the epithelial cells of the crypts and the numbers of cells in them. Fewer cells suffered injury when rubomycin was administered in combination with Rhodiola extract, and reparative processes of regeneration were activated.
