Scanning electron microscopy was used to evaluate the crazed surface that developed after 6 months of daily wear of a silicone acrylate contact lens. A similar surface spoilage phenomenon has been noted in silicone elastomer lenses. The crazed lens we studied showed random cracks extending into the anterior lens matrix. The etiology of this type of lens spoilage is unknown.
