A study was undertaken to determine whether the presence of copper in copper-coupled NSAIDs modifies the effect of the latter on wound-healing. Enfenamic acid (Enf) and ibuprofen (Ibu)-the two NSAIDs often used perisurgically, were coupled with copper. A comparative evaluation in male albino rats revealed that unlike the parent compounds (Enf and Ibu), their-copper complexes (Enf-Cu and Ibu-Cu) did not suppress the gain in breaking strength of 10 day-old incision wounds and the compounds promoted wound contraction and epithelization of excision wounds. In the case of the dead space wounds, Enf, Ibu, Enf-Cu and Ibu-Cu suppressed granulation, the latter two being more potent than the parent compounds.
