The present paper outlines recent aspects regarding immune changes in chronic hepatitis in children, and the present day pathogenetic framework. Study of the liver cell membrane, smooth muscle, nuclear and mitochondrial antibodies demonstrated the greater frequency of liver cell membrane antibodies, with a role in perpetuation of the hepatic lesion by an antibody-dependent, cellular mediated cytotoxicity mechanism. The importance of these immunological determinations in the evolutive diagnosis and institution for an immunodepressive therapy is emphasized.
