Studies on some developmental stages in the life cycle of Pygidiopsis genata Looss. 1907 (Trematoda: Heterophidae) from Egypt

Pleurolophocercous cercariae of P. genata were obtained from naturally infected Melania tuberculata and used to infect Gambusia affinis and Tilapia nilotica under laboratory conditions. Metacercariae were recovered 4-6 weeks pi and were fed to mice, which were killed 1-3 days later. The juvenile stages of P. genata are described and the morphology of the adult worm is compared with that of P. pindoramensis, P. summa and P. phalacrocracis.
