Isolation of Mycoplasma hominis from the blood in puerperal fever

The authors report on successful isolation of Mycoplasma hominis from hemoculture in cases of puerperal fever. The isolation of the pathogen from blood does not require special cultures medium. In one case only Mycoplasma hominis was isolated from the lochia taken from the uterus cavity. It is assumed that mycoplasmas may cause alone febrile complications around delivery. Sudden onset without subfebrility, septic fever, relatively good condition of the patient, slight local physical symptoms characterize the clinical picture. It is advised to complete the bacteriological examinations by the routine introduction of methods suitable for the demonstration of myocoplasmas in cases of premature rupture of the membrane or puerperal fever.
