Isolation and use of a Mycoplasma hominis antigen in the laboratory diagnosis of respiratory diseases

Five antigenic fractions of Mycoplasma hominis whose properties are studied in the complement fixation test (CFT) have been obtained by the ultrasonic and chemical treatment methods. The "complete" (insonified) antigen with a high activity and specificity has proved to be the most suitable for CFT. The study of 189 paired blood sera of patients with respiratory diseases, the "complete" antigen of M. hominis being used in CFT, revealed the diagnostically significant results in 4.2% of patients and confirmed them in 2.6% of examined patients in the indirect immunofluorescence test, that evidences for the presence of respiratory M. hominis-infection in them.
