Plastic slides contained in tubes and covered on both sides with suitable agar media, used since 1965 for the bacteriological examination of urine, have been adapted for application in the microbiological monitoring of food manufacturing industries and catering. Media, resuscitation procedures for sublethally stressed populations and tentative taxonomic grouping procedures found useful in these instances are recommended.
