The difference between the Hb-O2 saturation in the arterial and the venous blood can often be used as a relative index for the O2 status of the human organism. However, this only became possible after the correlation between the peripheral venous resting pO2, measured in the uncongested vena cubitalis, and the true central resting mixed pO2 (63 subjects) had been clarified. In this connection it also became possible to measure the improvement in the oxygen status obtained with drugs. The methodology and measurements of this type with the standardized ginseng extract G115 are reported. After a daily dose of two GINSANA capsules (with a content of 100 mg standardized ginseng extract G115 per capsule) for a period of four weeks, increases in the resting pO2 uptake of the organism and in the O2 transport into the organs and tissues of the body, from 100% before to 129% after the treatment, were observed. It must be pointed out that in younger, athletic subjects less improvement is to be expected, while patients with an above-average loss of vitality are likely to derive greater benefit from the treatment than the patient population studied here.
