Intermittent plasmapheresis was used for treating 24 patients with chronic and 2 patients with acute renal failure who were on hemodialysis. Plasmapheresis produced the following results: polyneuropathy, skin itching, and hypotension were alleviated; parameters of red blood cells improved, and the level of urea and creatinine reduced. Plasmapheresis used in acute renal failure promoted removal of pathological substances from the blood, that accumulate during intravascular blood clotting. Plasmapheresis performed during hemodialysis caused no complications.
