Continual use of medications: a study on the consumer

A domiciliary questionnaire was realized on a sample of 841 subjects to evaluate the chronic intake of drugs. The 21.7% took drugs chronically, and the mean age was 46.2 with a SD of 19 years. The average of drugs taken by consumer was 2.03. A 29.6% of chronic patients (hypertensive, diabetics, obeses) took a wrong treatment, and they supplied the sanitary-dietetic treatment by pharmacological treatment. The central nervous system (20.3%) was the most used therapeutic group, and the cardiovascular (20.1%) the next. In the first group, the analgesics (56.5%) were the most important, and the peripheric vasodilators (36%) in the second group. As index of drugs quality, we take the inclusion or not in the list of the WHO and the Index Farmacologic, and the number of active principles. A 22.2% of the drugs taken by patients are included in the list of the WHO and the 42% in the Index Farmacologic. A 28.7% of the total drugs has three or more active principles in their composition.
