The development of the psychiatric case in the GDR shows alterations. A shifting of the accent arises with the improvement of the out-patient case and with the introduction of specific dispensaires, the stationarily treated patient becomes more and more disabled and in connection with this potentially more threatened by chronification. New situations of demands arise for the treatment which include a special duty for the protection of the patients' rights for a social and occupational rehabilitation, adequate to the disability and as complete as possible. "Active tending" and "clinical unity of existence" are presented as models of the care in the sense of an enlarged methodical repertory.
