To study the comparative speed of action of newly developed broad spectrum anthelmintic comp. 81-470 and the standard drugs mebendazole (MBZ) and thiabendazole (TBZ), their biological evaluation was carried out simultaneously both in vivo and in vitro against Ancylostoma ceylanicum in hamsters and Nippostrongylus brasiliensis in rats. In A. ceylanicum Comp. 81-470 and MBZ had similar course of action and the distinct effect was evident by 18th hr of administration and complete worm removal was achieved by 30th hr. In vitro. Comp. 81-470 was benign to parasites but MBZ was toxic in concentrations 0.01 mg/ml and above. In case of N. brasiliensis, the action of Comp. 81-470 was a little faster than TBZ, as the former removed parasites by 42nd hr of dosing and the later took 48 hr to produce similar results. None of the drugs were lethal to N. brasiliensis in vitro.
