The hypolipemic efficacy of diethylaminoethyl dextran has been confirmed in a large group of patients with dyslipidemia after long-term treatment with daily doses of 3 g. Special attention has been devoted to the study of drug tolerability which was found to be optimal both subjectively and as shown by a number of parameters (liver and kidney function, blood concentration of fat-soluble vitamins, bile composition, blood glucose tolerance curve, hypoglycemic drug consumption). DEAE-dextran proved to be an agent particularly suited for the long-term treatment of dyslipidemias.
