A family outbreak of toxoplasmosis in Ireland, possibly contracted by eating undercooked meat, is described. A 39-year-old man presented with a 3-months history of swelling on the right side of the neck, cough, fever and general malaise. He showed latex agglutination titre for Toxoplasma gondii of 1:2048 on 4 occasions and was positive for IgM antibodies. One of his children had enlarged lymph nodes but his wife and his other child had no abnormal physical findings; their antibody titres were 1:2048, <1:16 and 1:1024 resp.
