In a study of the effects of thymectomy on the lesions of avian tuberculosis (14), 85% of surgically thymectomized chickens had thymic remnants that varied in size from 5% to 15% of the original thymic tissue. The thymic remnants did not undergo hypertrophy or hyperplasia as do most other tissues of the body in response to demand for increased function.
