Ochratoxicosis in Iowa swine

The pigs of 2 herds in Iowa were urinating and drinking more than normal. PM the affected pigs had pale tan kidneys with microscopic lesions of diffuse tubular nephrosis and interstitial fibrosis. Ochratoxin A was detected by thin-layer chromatography in whole maize and in concentrates on both farms. Ochratoxicosis was reproduced in swine given the feed from one farm.
