A case of Candida albicans infection in a fullterm female infant is reported. Widespread erthematous macules, papules and vesicopustules were present from birth on the face, trunk and lower limbs. The palms and soles were also involved but the back and buttocks were spared. Spores and pseudohyphae were seen in histological sections but physical evaluation and biological tests were otherwise normal. Therapy with nystatin topically and 5-fluorocytosine orally led to rapid resolution of the lesions. The mother had a history of recurrent vaginal candidosis. Findings in this and 46 other cases from the literature are reviewed.
