Document Number: 277360
The bibliography is an annotated guide to the literature published on agricultural land preservation 1970-81, with a few references to items issued before 1970, and several from 1982 and 1983. Included are books, articles, reports, government documents, and bibliographies published in the USA and abroad. The emphasis is on policies and techniques for preserving farmlands. These include not only traditional approaches such as planning and zoning and preferential tax assessment, but such innovative concepts as private land trusts, purchase of development rights, and transfer of development rights. The primary organization of the bibliography is by geographical area (Parts 1-4): some global perspectives; other national studies; the USA; by individual states. Part 5, farmland preservation techniques lists items about specific techniques, including planning and zoning, taxation in general, preferential property taxation, acquisition of development rights, and transfer of development rights. Parts 6 and 7 list key periodicals and bibliographies.
