Investigation of erythrocytic chalone and antichalone activity in plasma and red cell extracts has confirmed the existence of the chalone-antichalone system regulating erythropoiesis directed at stabilization of red cell count. This system is important in a moderately manifest decrease of the red cell count and it plays a role in stimulation of the regeneration reactions of the bone marrow in hemolytic anemias of varying genesis, in compensated hemolysis, in particular.
