The presence of placental proteins in preparations of normal human immunoglobulin (NHI) which were produced from human placenta or retroplacental serum and plasma were studied. It was found that all series of NHI preparation from placentas contained chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) in an amount of 5400-14 400 ng/ml, SP1 glycoprotein in an amount of 205-485 ng/ml and alkaline phosphatase in an amount of 250-1495 mjm. In NHI preparations obtained from mixed raw material only chorionic gonadotropin and SP1 glycoprotein were present. The concentration of those substances was much lower than in NHI preparations obtained from placentas. None of the tested series of NHI preparations contained placental lactogen (hPL) as measured byu a sensitivity method of 0.7 ng/ml. In biological studies it was found that chorionic gonadotropin present in NHI preparations did not cause any changes in reproductive organs of animals even when used in a dose 100 times that of the lowest active dose of hCG standard.
