A conference aimed at providing the latest information on family planning and reproductive health care in Britain and abroad was organized by The Royal Society for the Promotion of Health. The conference, entitled "Contraception Today," was held in London in October 1998. A delegation composed of 135 doctors, nurses, administrators, and other health professionals attended the conference. The six chosen speakers focused on how best to advise those seeking information on contraceptive methods and reproductive health care. Alison Hadley pointed out that access to confidential advice centers was a key factor in helping young people to look after their sexual health. Doctor Fay Hutchinson emphasized the need for contraception. Kathy French gave an overview on the role and responsibility of the family planning nurse. Doctor Bashir Qureshi presented information on the transcultural, religious and ethical aspects of family planning. Doctor Rosemay Kirkman reported on trends in contraception. Klim McPherson talked about the correlation of contraceptive pills with cancer. Each presentation was followed by an educational and interactive discussion.
