This article summarizes the results of a multidisciplinary meeting with representatives, from developing and developed countries, with expertise in clinical disciplines (nutrition, infectious diseases and immunology) as well as professionals from related fields (epidemiology and medical ethics). Diagnoses and assessment of populations, immunological mechanisms relating nutrition to infections and the ethical conduct of research on public health interventions are discussed.
