A combined clinico-allergological and functional study was conducted of 83 allergic rhinitis patients in the preasthma stage. These patients had a positive response only to noninfectious allergens. Spirography and pneumotachometry were used for the functional diagnosis of the bronchopulmonary system. The bronchial lability test was used for the evaluation of the bronchomotor responses of the respiratory apparatus. High bronchial lability was observed in the patients, which points to the early disorder in the function of the bronchial smooth muscles. The detection of preasthma makes it possible to prevent the development of bronchial asthma.
