Epizootic of acanthocephaliasis among primates

An outbreak of Prosthenorchis elegans infection occurred among the great apes at the Hogle Zoo in Salt Lake City, Utah. Involved were 5 gibbons, 3 orang-utans, and 1 gorilla among 15 primates. Three gibbons died. Treatment with dithiazinine, piperazine, atabrine, aspidium, thiabendazole, and starvation was, at best, only partially effective.
