Leptospira hardjo agalactia in sheep

Leptospira interrogans serovar hardjo causes disease in cattle, but apparently not in sheep, although it has been isolated from sheep. This serovar was associated with agalactia in a group of 60 recently-purchased ewes in February 1982, in north Antrim, Northern Ireland, also in four other flocks in the lambing season of 1983, and in 12 flocks in the lambing seasons of 1984 and 1985. After immunization with a commercial hardjo vaccine no further cases occurred.
