Ten isolates of leptospires from Rattus norvegicus caught in Saigon in 1962 were identified as L. bataviae by the cross agglutination lysis and cross absorption tests. The strains, however, were not antigenically identical with the reference strain of L. bataviae or its variant subserotype. The ecological relationship of the rat with L. bataviae in North and South Vietnam requires further study.
