15 outbreaks of milk drop syndrome were encountered during 1979 in N. Ireland herds; abortions occurred in 5 outbreaks, and 5 possible cases of human illness due to the organism were recorded. Symptoms, diagnosis and significance of L. hardjo infections are briefly discussed.
