The morpholoical features of human trabecular meshwork cells in primary culture and third passage were studied by electron microscopy. Cultured trabecular meshwork cells appeared similar in all passages. Individual cells had villous projections and cytoplasmic processes. Adjacent cells and their processes adhered closely one to another. The cytoplasm was rich in rough endoplasmic reticulum, free ribosomes, lysosomes, mitochondria, and Golgi apparatus. The cytoskeleton of the cells consisted of microtubules and cytoplasmic filaments. The characteristics of cultured trabecular meshwork cells closely resembled those described for uncultured cells.
