8 of 16 calves born on one farm in January-February 1984 died from bovine herpesvirus 1 infection at 1-4 weeks of age. Necrosis of the liver and pharyngeal ulceration were present. One calf had non-suppurative encephalitis. The adult cattle were not affected.
