Immunologic methods were used to detect the increase in the blood content of chalones in patients with acute and chronic leukemias concomitant with the development of anemia. The blood chalone level is also elevated in erythremia; however, due to a decreased sensitivity of the cells to chalones anemia does not develop. Multiple and single (massive) bloodlettings increase the blood chalone level, that is why they are recommended for hemopoiesis correction in patients with polycythemia vera.
