Patients (8) with acute myocardial infarction were examined. Multidirectional changes to the .alpha.-tocopherol content were observed in the blood plasma and erythrocyte membranes of the patients: on the 1st day its content in the blood plasma decreased and it increased in the erythrocyte membranes; on the 2nd and 3rd day the .alpha.-tocoperhol content in the blood plasma increased and it decreased in the erythrocyte membranes. Determination of the .alpha.-tocopherol content in the blood plasma and erythrocyte membranes of patients with acute myocardial infarction may serve as a diagnostic test for evaluating the state of the antioxidant system.
