The structure of nocturnal sleep was studied in healthy men on the recovery night after sleep deprivation, physical and mental load and administration of small doses of alcohol. The data obtained point to an important role of slow-wave sleep in adaptive reactions under various effects. A nonspecific reaction of delta sleep to all loads was observed. This may point to the multiple functions of sleep in general and of its part, delta sleep, which participate in the overcoming of stress reaction and its effects, intoxication, anabolic processes during processing of information.
