The dietary habits and symptoms were studied by recording method in 12 patients with gastric ulcer. The daily symptoms of these patients related to the eating. Some of the patients had pains with the empty stomach and some had postprandial pain or postprandial sweating, nausea, and faintness. The patients with the postprandial pain had only three meals in a day whereas the others had more than three meals in a day. The meals of the patients were small and the total intake of food, energy and nutrients was low. It is concluded that in the patients with gastric ulcer the eating is a practical problem. Several mechanisms may cause the symptoms related to the eating. Further it is suggested that to avoid the possible malnutrition the patients with gastric ulcer should increase the nutrient density of their diet and/or intake supplements of vitamins and minerals.
