Outbreak of balanoposthitis in breeding bulls

An outbreak of acute balanoposthitis in February 1981 affected 25 (23.8%) of 105 Boran bulls. Preputial washings from 7 affected bulls did not yield Campylobacter fetus, and blood serum samples from 20 were negative for brucellosis. Cowdry type A inclusion bodies, typical of herpesvirus, were demonstrated in the preputial mucosa of 8 out of 12 bulls.
