In order to study the toxicity and residues of Urbacid in foods, the acute toxicity test, the accumulative toxicity test, the dominant lethal assay, the chromosome aberration analysis, Ames test, the teratogenic test and measurement of residues of this fungicide in foods were carried out. According to our results, the oral LD50 of Urbacid in rat and mouse were 126 mg/kg and 221 mg/kg respectively, being moderately toxic. This fungicide can accumulate in rats. Both Ames Test and dominant lethal assay of this fungicide exhibited negative results. Urbacid is fetal toxic to rats in a dosage of 30 mg/kg and chromosome aberratic to mouse bone marrow cells in a dosage of 60 mg/kg. The residues of Urbacid on cucumbers and tomatoes were 285 .mu.g/kg and 24.6 .mu.g/kg respectively. Due to the above results and being an As-contained compound, it is better to use Urbacid with strict restriction.
