Norms for anterior fontanel size in Punjabi children

A percentile grid for the size of anterior fontanel in a group of 735 normal, healthy children born to Punjab-speaking parents was constructed, at quarterly age intervals. The mean fontanel size, which was 3.92 cm at birth is reduced to 11.4% of its size by 2 yr of age. The complete closure of fontanel was observed in 87.9% of the subjects by 24 mo. of age. It is hoped that the data provided will serve as a reference standard for the clinical evaluation of fontanel size among children of Punjabi origin.
