In rats pranolium (UM-272, a derivative of propranolol) prevented the arrhythmia induced by iv aconitine 16 .mu.g/kg. Perfusion with 15.6 and 31.2 mg/l on isolated porcine ventricular preparations, the action potential (AP) of the ventricular fiber changed significantly: (1) the amplitude and the maximum rate of depolarization were reduced; (2) the duration and the effective refractory period were prolonged. These results showed that pranolium exhibited the quinidine-like anti-arrhythmic action on myocardium.
