In four European countries and in Canada, four species of ruminants with various diseases have yielded a total of 33 strains of M. arginini: - cattle (from the respiratory tract in cases of pneumonia, eyes in keratoconjunctivitis, semen in vesiculitis, and udder in mastitis), sheep (from the nose in an outbreak of coughing, eye in keratoconjunctivitis, and brain in scrapie), goat (from an arthritic joint), and chamois (from the eye in keratoconjunctivitis).
