The dynamics of arterial pressure was studied in nephritis patients treated with prednisolone for a long time. These data were compared with the state of factors regulating systemic arterial pressure (water-salt homeostasis, renin-aldosterone system). Criteria for identifying groups with an increased probability of developing steroid hypertension were outlined. Patients (35), aged 14-48, were examined. The hypertensive effect of glucocorticosteroids was not associated with the mineralocorticoid properties of the steroid preparations used. This fact was confirmed by the diuretic and natriuretic reactions to their use. The development of steroid hypertension only in patients with the hypervolemic type of nephrotic syndrome confirms the importance of the initial increase in the circulating blood volume in the genesis of steroid hypertension and justifies the identification of this group of patients as a risk group with respect to the development of steroid hypertension.
