Shwachman's syndrome. Ultrasonic and x-ray computed tomographic aspects. Apropos of 3 cases

In front of an external pancreatic insufficiency of a severe failure to thrive and other anomalies (like medullary insufficiency, chondrodysplasia), one should think of Schwachman's syndrome when cystic fibrosis has been excluded. Ultrasound can show hyperechogenicity of the pancreas that will prove to be fat at CT therefore confirming the diagnosis. The authors present three cases of Schwachman's syndrome and one case of fatty atrophy of the pancreas thought to be secondary to an embryopathy. An extensive review of the literature is done. Ultrasound and CT of these entities are presented.
