The effect of prostaglandin D2 (PGD2) on the herpes simplex virus (HSV) growth was examined. It was confirmed that PGD2 inhibited the HSV growth in the FL cell culture, and the degree of the inhibition was dependent on the concentration of PGD2. PGD2 inhibited the HSV growth only when the cells were treated with PGD2 after the HSV adsorption. It was also confirmed that human leukocyte interferon (IFN) and PGD2 showed the synergistic effect on the inhibition of HSV growth.
