Hyperimmune sera to calf diarrhoea rotavirus and bovine coronavirus were prepared in cattle, while immune serum to swine fever pestivirus was used as a test for bovine diarrhoea pestivirus. Applied to sections of intestine or smears of intestinal mucosa from 100 calves with diarrhoea, rotavirus antigen was detected in 38 and coronavirus antigen in 37. Pestivirus antigen was detected in abomasal mucosa in 26 of 55 calves. There were some cases of mixed infection with all three viruses. Rotavirus antigen was present in 19% of monolayer cell cultures prepared from calf specimens, and coronavirus in 26%.
